A bit of history Sembuwatta Lake Water Tank
The British started tea plantations in the area and used the lake as a polo ground. A tea factory was started nearby in 1949, and later, the lake was constructed to generate electricity for it.
Legend has it that once, a factory worker found a brass pot (sambuca) in a nearby natural spring. He fled the country with the relic, and his son later built a temple on the spot where the spring began. The remains of the temple are still visible there. The area was then named Sembuwatta, which means brass pot garden.
Sembuwatta Lake gives visitors a paradise feel. This pristine lake, fed by natural spring water, remains a significant attraction in the hills. Surrounded by sprawling tea plantations, the lake reflects its picturesque surroundings at its finest. The tranquillity of the surroundings and the clear, cool water create a beautiful environment for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Lush vegetation stretches as far as the eye can see, towering mountains bring mind-blowing freedom, and the surrounding beauty adorns the lake.
Sembuwatta Lake is not just a visual delight; it can also be described as a tranquil oasis for those seeking relaxation. Enjoy the crystal clear water, the lake’s beauty, and boating activities. Whether you are a nature lover, photographer, or family looking for a peaceful outing, Sembuwatta is the perfect place.
