LMS Stanier Class 5 (Black 5) No 45212 – Numbered 5212 by the LMS the engine was produced by Armstrong Whitworth at their works in Newcastle in 1935 and gained the British Railways number 45212 after nationalisation. The engine started life in Bradford and was withdrawn from Lostock Hall (Preston) in 1968 but not before having the distinction of heading the final steam-hauled revenue-earning service for British Railways on 4th August 1968.,

The instantly recognisable Glenfinnan Viaduct is located on the Mallaig extension of the West Highland Railway and opened in 1901. The viaduct, along with others on the line, was designed by famous engineer Sir Robert McAlpine who was nicknamed “Concrete Bob” for his innovative use of mass concrete.

There are a few spots along the viaduct you can shoot the train from but this composition is the most popular as the train is coming towards you. If you’re lucky, the driver will ‘toot’ the horn to everyone waiting on the hill. If you get there early enough you can suss out a few spots to make sure you’re happy with the composition before the train passes.

A daily steam service, known as “The Jacobite” runs from Easter until October, in addition to the regular service train between Glasgow Central and Mallaig, for tourists and is said to be the most spectacular rail journey in the United Kingdom. The 1935 built LMS Black Five steam locomotive can be seen accelerating off the viaduct returning to Fort William with the morning “Jacobite” service with the northern shores of Loch Shiel visible in the distance.

Glenfinnan Viaduct was opened on 1st April 1901 after the construction started in 1897. It is located at the top of Loch Shiel and it over looks the Glenfinnan Monument.

The Viaduct is famous for been in four of the Harry Potter films, it has also been in Monarch of the Glen and The Crown.

The Glenfinnan Monument situated within the town in Glenfinnan within the Scottish Highlands, is an emblematic dedication to the clansman who died and fought during the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. The monument was built in 1815. memorial was created by famed Scottish architectural designer James Gillespie Graham.

At the on the top of the monument is the lone, with a kilted Highlander who looks out over the beautiful landscape that is considered to be an extremely picturesque locations in Scotland. The monument is in the supervision by the National Trust for Scotland, and visitors are able to climb to the top to enjoy a stunning panorama of the surrounding landscape.
